Game Drawings in Perspective Critique
For the game drawing, each student took a photo of the game and its pieces, and then we drew the photo. Then we painted the black and white drawing with watercolor which was rather difficult because you cant easily blend overlapping values. We also colored the drawing with colored pencils and we had to use shadows to make it look realistic. There were several highlights in my drawing, many of them occurring directly above the horizon. Overall, i think my piece turned out rather good, i just wish i would've noticed little details, like how i forgot to finish coloring the table on the left side causing the board to look like its falling off the table. With the exception of that, i do feel successful about this piece. What worked was the way we set up the perspective which included the vanishing points. They helped me keep my board game drawing looking boxy. The washes of the water color were often not perfect because of the way the colors combined, but we could gradually get the colors to look real. This wasn't the most difficult part though, the most difficult part was keeping the small writing in line with the large letters on the box. it doesn't look difficult but it was. i wouldn't make any changes next time, except to pay more attention to small details in the photo. I learned that perspective can be both fun and easy, but also can easily turn your art very difficult.
